Areas of the Bellingham Airport terminal were evacuated earlier today after two pieces of suspicious luggage were found at a TSA screening checkpoint at approximately 9:40am today. As a precaution, law enforcement was called and portions of the airport were evacuated.
The Bellingham Police Department’s Bomb Squad arrived on site at about 10 a.m. and evaluated the package using the Bomb Squad’s robotic device. Representatives from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, TSA officials and the FBI also were on the scene.
Two departures were delayed, a Alaska Air flight bound for Seattle and an Allegiant Air flight destined for Las Vegas. Those flights will depart as soon as their passengers complete the security and screening process.
No inbound flights were impacted.
