Marina Advisory Committee Members Appointed
For the Port of Bellingham

[Bellingham, Wash.] At a recent Port of Bellingham Commission meeting, two new members were appointed to the Port of Bellingham Marina Advisory Committee.

Hamilton Hayes and Rolland Province were appointed on January 10, 2006 to each serve three year terms beginning March 1.

“Hayes and Province will be filling two important positions on the committee,” said Director of Marine Services, Stephan Jilk . “They will help continue to maintain good representation from the boating and marine businesses in our community.”

Hayes is an active member of the Squalicum Yacht Club and Province, employed at Tri-State Marine will represent a marine-related business.

The current 15-member committee includes recreational boaters, commercial fishers, charter boat operators, local yacht club members, a City of Bellingham representative and a marine-related business representative.

The committee serves as a marina advisory board for Port staff and Port Commission. It addresses issues about the policies, direction, and impact of these facilities upon the Whatcom County community. Specific areas of recommendations include annual review of harbor rates, exploration of areas for marina expansion and general environmental impact associated with the marinas.

The Port of Bellingham operates Whatcom County’s major transportation terminals including the Bellingham Airport, Fairhaven Transportation Station and the Bellingham Cruise Terminal. The Port also serves about 2,000 moorage customers in its Blaine and Squalicum Harbors.

In addition, about 300 businesses operate on Port properties, which are managed by the Port Real Estate Division. The Port of Bellingham is a countywide independent special purpose government.
