ANTHONY’S RESTAURANT SIGNS PORT LEASE
New Restaurant to Open at Former Marina Restaurant Site

[Bellingham, Wash.] The Port of Bellingham Board of Commissioners approved a land lease agreement April 18 with Anthony’s Restaurant for the former Marina Restaurant site at Bellwether on the Bay™. Execution of the land lease is contingent upon completion of the sale agreement of the building between Anthony’s and Squalicum Investments, owner of the Marina Restaurant.

“Anthony’s is already a great part of our waterfront,” said Commission President Jim Jorgensen. “The Port is pleased to have another presence by Anthony’s in Bellingham.”

This will be Anthony’s second restaurant at Bellwether on the Bay™, joining Anthony’s Homeport, which opened in 2001. The land, located at 7 Bellwether Way, which Anthony’s will lease, is approximately 23,250 square feet and the lease extends over a 30-year period with four 10-year renewal periods.

“We enjoy our relationship with the Port” said Anthony’s Operations Manager Herb Gould. “We look forward to moving ahead with this project.” Anthony’s management anticipates undertaking a major remodel of the existing building and plans to begin the construction work once the building sale is completed. Anthony’s goal is to open the restaurant in about four to six months.

Anthony’s Restaurants is a privately held company owned by a partnership of Seattle native, Budd Gould, the Gould family and members of Anthony’s senior management team. Incorporated in 1972, the company operates under the corporate title of Mad Anthony’s Inc. They own and operate a group of 23 waterfront restaurants in 16 locations throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The Port of Bellingham operates Whatcom County’s major transportation terminals including the Bellingham Airport, Fairhaven Transportation Station and the Bellingham Cruise Terminal. The Port also serves about 2,000 moorage customers in its Blaine and Squalicum Harbors.

In addition, about 300 businesses operate on Port properties, which are managed by the Port Real Estate Division. The Port of Bellingham is a countywide independent special purpose government.
