Port Commission Elects Officers, Establishes Meeting Times


[Bellingham, Wash.] In the first Port of Bellingham Commission meeting of the new year, the Port Commission selected its officers, established the regular commission meeting schedule and appointed commissioners to various boards.
At the Jan. 2 meeting, Scott Walker was elected commission president. He has served on the commission since 1991. Commissioner Doug Smith, in office since 1994, was elected commission vice president and Commissioner Jim Jorgensen was elected commission secretary. Jorgensen joined the commission in 2004.

The commission also set the date, time and location of the regular commission meetings for 2007. The regular meeting dates will continue to be at 3 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Harbor Center Conference Room, 1801 Roeder Avenue.

The Port of Bellingham operates Whatcom County’s major transportation terminals including the Bellingham Airport, Fairhaven Transportation Station and the Bellingham Cruise Terminal. The Port also serves about 2,000 moorage customers in its Blaine and Squalicum Harbors.

In addition, about 300 businesses operate on Port properties. The Port of Bellingham is a countywide, independent, special-purpose government.
