The Business Development Division looks for opportunities for local, regional, and national business operations to locate on Port-owned properties including:

• The Waterfront District, possibly the premier waterfront development site in the Pacific Northwest. Focus: marine industrial, clean tech, sustainable brownfield development
• Blaine Marine redevelopment. Focus: a shipyard industrial site for marine users and additional commercial development potential land in the Wharf District
• Bellingham International Airport's Industrial Park. Focus: aviation-related cargo and general aviation development land available with airfield access, and airport industrial park land available adjacent to the airfield

Additionally, our approach is to:

• Support the greater Whatcom County community for continued collaboration all Port developments
• Concentrate first on expansion of local and regional firms already embedded in the greater community and also to bring their suppliers to the area and second, to bring new businesses and jobs from outside our community here
• Seek experienced brownfield waterfront developers with knowledge and proven success in sustainable, creative, authentic and collaborative community developments
• Concentrate on opportunities that bring sustainable jobs to the region and broaden the community economic base
