Today the Port of Bellingham’s Board of Commissioners met to announce their selection of Rob Fix as Executive Director for the Port. Fix had been serving as Interim Executive Director since April of this year.
The Commission approved his selection unanimously and all spoke about the skills and experience Fix will bring to the position, noting his successes during his time as Interim Executive Director.
“Given his experience, local knowledge and the great strides he has made in the last few months – particularly on waterfront negotiations, we recognized that he was the best person to serve as the next Executive Director for the Port of Bellingham,” said Commission President Scott Walker.
Fix has been an employee of the Port since 2008 serving as Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Director. During the past year, Fix also managed the Port’s Real Estate Division. Prior to joining the Port, Fix was a partner and Chief Financial Officer for MTM Luxury Lodging & FST Asset Management. He also served as the CFO for Trillium. Fix is a graduate of Washington State University with a Bachelors Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration.
In addition to approving his selection, the Commission also approved the compensation package for this position, which includes a $140,000-a-year salary, a $600-a-month car allowance, 10 percent-a-year deferred compensation and a four-month separation agreement.
Fix will assume the role of Executive Director immediately.
The Port serves all of Whatcom County and is an independent local government, charged with economic development and transportation services. It has about 100 employees and operates the Bellingham International Airport, the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, the Fairhaven Station train depot, Squalicum and Blaine Marinas and the Bellingham Shipping terminal. It also manages real estate throughout the county serving about 250 business tenants big and small.
