[ARCHIVED] Fire at Squalicum Harbor, Public, Boat Owners Should Stay Away

Update 11:14am There will be a press conferance at 11:30am at Squalicum Harbor. The Media may call 360-303-0518 or 360-739-4373 for additional information.

Update 7:30amThe Port of Bellingham asks that the public and boat owners stay away the Squalicum Harbor area as firefighters work to contain a boathouse fire on East G dock of Gate 3. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but the boathouse appears to be a total loss.

About 10 boats have sustained major damage or are completely destroyed. The fire has been contained with fire department personnel remaining on scene to extinguish smoldering fires.

Access to the Gate 3, next to the Bellingham Yacht Club area of the marina is currently limited to emergency personnel. Boat owners in that area are asked to wait until fire fighting activity is complete before attempting to assess their property for damage.

The Bellingham Fire Department and Port of Bellingham are currently making attempts to confirm all persons that may have been living aboard vessels have been accounted for.

The Bellingham Fire Department is the lead agency on this fire, with BFD responding to media inquiries. Additional information can be found at www.COB.org in the news section on the right of the page.
