City Council, Port Commission Consider Final Action on Waterfront District Plans

The Bellingham City Council and Port of Bellingham Commission are expected to take action on the Waterfront District sub-area plan, regulations and all related documents at meetings scheduled for Dec. 2 and 3, 2013.

All documents being considered by the Council and Commission are posted on the agencies’ websites:
City Council agenda for Dec. 2
Port Commission agenda for Dec. 3 see link below

These documents reflect City and Port discussions, proposals, and changes made through the course of the legislative process. In addition, Port and City staff will be asking Council and Commission to consider a minor modification to the Interlocal Agreement for Facilities to increase the frequency of conducting an economic impact study from every five years to every two years. And, the City will prepare a scope of work to conduct a habitat assessment for the Waterfront District.

“The agreement represents a partnership with the Port, an incredible effort by our staff, and review by our elected officials that will benefit those who live, work, visit and invest in our community,” said Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville.

“The Port and City have worked cooperatively to bring forward agreements that represent the community’s vision for the waterfront and that include the action steps needed to move from planning to reality,” said Port Executive Director Rob Fix. “This project will connect Downtown Bellingham with its waterfront and will create essential new jobs and economic opportunities.”

The City Council meeting will be held at City Hall at 7 p.m. Monday Dec. 2, and the Port Commission meeting at Harbor Center at 3 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 3. As always, public comment periods are held at the beginning of each meeting.
