[Blaine, Wash.] The Blaine Harbor public pier, known locally as the end-pier, will close temporarily on Jan. 16 for structural repairs. The closure will affect both pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and is expected to last for about six weeks.
The Port of Bellingham pier, located at the end of Marine Drive is used throughout the year by bird watchers, crabbers and picnickers. The Port is investing in the pier so that it will remain structurally sound for future enjoyment.
The pier work will include re-driving structural piles and replacement of support beams and wood decking. IMCO General Construction was selected to perform the work on the more than $200,000 project.
During the project, vehicle and pedestrian access to the pier will be closed at the intersection of Marine Drive and Sigurdson Avenue for public safety. However, during the project visitors to Blaine will still be able to enjoy the water view from the public parking lot located at Sigurdson Avenue and Blaine’s Marina Park.
The Port of Bellingham is a countywide special purpose government that operates the Bellingham International Airport, the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, Fairhaven Station, Squalicum Marina, Blaine Marina, the Bellingham Shipping Terminal and various real estate developments with over 250 business tenants. The Port also provides community parks and public event facilities including Zuanich Point Park, Marine Park, Tom Glenn Common, the Marine Life Center and the Squalicum Boathouse.
