Marine Trades Job and Internship Fair Set for May 19th

The Port is hosting a Marine Trades Job and Internship Fair on Thursday, May 19th from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fishermen’s Pavilion in Bellingham.  No registration or admission fees are required.

“The Marine Trades Job and Internship Fair is great opportunity for students and job seekers to learn about employment opportunities with Whatcom County’s working waterfront” said Port Executive Director Rob Fix. “Marine trades industries create or support over 6,000 jobs representing 7% of Whatcom County’s total workforce. The Port’s job fair will provide access to working waterfront employers from a wide variety of organizations and industries who are seeking hardworking and enthusiastic employees to fill available positions.”

On May 19th, job seekers can connect with over 16 employers and resources with immediate openings in Whatcom County and the surrounding areas. Participants include All American Marine, Trident Seafoods, Bellingham Cold Storage, Northwest Marine Industries, the Blue Water Scholarship Fund, Sun Coast Rigging, Mantle Industries, Northwest Explorations, Bellingham Technical College, Pacific Marine Yacht Systems, Birdon Group, Nichols Brothers Boat Builders, Industrial Resources, On-Board Marine, the Working Waterfront Coalition of Whatcom County, and the Port of Bellingham.

"Our young people grow up enjoying our marine waters with their families and friends -- either boating, fishing, or beach bumming” said Working Waterfront Coalition of Whatcom County Program Manager Deb Granger. “Yet, many of us do not have a clue that there are wonderful, exciting, and well-paying jobs right here on our shores or on our waters. We are grateful to the Port of Bellingham and others for hosting this Job & Internship Fair where young people can meet a few of these employers and learn about these jobs -- either summer jobs or even more long-term careers. We hope to see you at the bay on Thursday, May 19th in the new Waterfront Pavilion."
