Bellingham Bay Pilot Project
Since 1996, the Port of Bellingham has co-managed the
Bellingham Bay Pilot Project, a landscape-level planning effort of 14 different federal, state, local, and tribal agencies to maximize Bellingham Bay habitat productivity to the extent possible. The partner agencies continue to work cooperatively together to meet the bay-wide habitat objectives set forth in the
Habitat Restoration Documentation Report.
Local / Regional Stakeholders
The port has also engaged a number of other local and regional stakeholders to support the ongoing education, technology transfer, and participation in habitat restoration efforts. These stakeholders include the
Whatcom County Marine Resources Committee and the
Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association - a community-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring sustainable wild salmon runs in Whatcom County.
