Green Marine program

The Port of Bellingham officially became a participant in the Green Marine certification program in early 2023 after 2-3 years of collaboration and consideration. We evaluated environmental issues related to air, water and soil quality in our maritime operations and Port-wide operations against the Performance Indicators for Ports & Seaway (there are other Performance Indicators for Ship Owners, Shipyards and Terminals).

Green Marine is "the leading environmental certification program for North America's maritime industry,. It is a voluntary initiative that helps its participants to improve their environmental performance beyond regulations." More information can be found on https://green-marine.org/

The Port has expanded the scope of our operations since the original self reporting, and had a third party verification performed against the 2023 performance indicators in April, 2024. This first independent verifiers' report is available here. The scope of certification is focused on our marine terminals and the Port operations that support them: 

• Bellingham Shipping Terminal;
• Bellingham Cruise Terminal; and 
• C Street Terminal.
