Granary Avenue and Laurel Street are now open allowing the public to drive through Bellingham's downtown waterfront for the first time in over 100 years. The project includes new public and franchise utilities, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, parking, landscaping and street lighting.
Granary Avenue connects to Roeder Avenue just south of the Granary Building and Laurel Street connects to Cornwall Avenue. Granary Avenue provides a connection to Waypoint Park, a new public park along the Whatcom Waterway which includes a kayak beach. By providing access and utilities through the site, the project will allow for mixed use development within the downtown waterfront.
The Port will soon begin construction on new mountain bike trails through the downtown waterfront including a singletrack sidewalk and a pump track.
