The Port has appointed Tiffany DeSimone as Interim Executive Director following the departure of former director, Rob Fix. Tiffany’s appointment reflects the Port’s commitment to steady leadership, continued public service, and maintaining momentum on critical projects while a national search is conducted for a permanent replacement over the next 3–9 months.
Tiffany DeSimone, who was born and raised in Whatcom County, has over a decade of experience with the Port. A graduate of Mt. Baker High School and Western Washington University, she has built a career strengthening connections between government, industry, labor, and community partners. Her leadership combines deep institutional knowledge with a forward-looking approach to service delivery and economic development.
Before stepping into the interim role, DeSimone oversaw operations at the Bellingham Shipping Terminal, Squalicum Harbor, and Blaine Harbor. She also played a key role in launching the Port’s internal security program and led outreach efforts that have built trust with labor partners, tenants, and the public.
“Tiffany has earned the respect and trust of Port staff, labor partners, and stakeholders across the region,” said Commission President Ken Bell. “Her steady hand and deep local roots make her uniquely qualified to guide the Port through this transition. We are confident in her ability to support our team, maintain momentum on key projects, and uphold the Port’s mission.”
The Port is currently managing major environmental cleanups, shoreline restoration projects, and capital investments in marine infrastructure, many supported by federal partners such as the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD). Tiffany’s knowledge of these initiatives ensures continuity and keeps the Port on track as it continues to deliver for Whatcom County.
In the months ahead, the Port’s Director of Human Resources will launch a competitive search for the next Executive Director. The Port Commission aims to find a candidate who combines national expertise with a strong understanding of local priorities. During the transition, Tiffany will work closely with Commissioners and staff to advance the Port’s strategic goals.
